Martin Barre live @ Piano Dortmund

Martin Barre, 69 Jahre alt, spielte in bester Form. Vom aktuellen Album spielte er Moment of Madness und das Titelstück Back to Steel.

Martin Barre live @ Piano Dortmund

After more than forty years as lead guitarist of Jethro Tull, Martin Barre went on tour again with his own band. A performance in Germany led the group to the »Musiktheater Piano« in Dortmund. Right at the beginning, Barre promised to play pieces from the Tull repertoire, which had not received much attention during concerts in the past. Spectators came to enjoy the almost forgotten songs of Sea Lion, Teacher and Skating Away. All played as hard rock pieces. At Minstrel in the Gallery, the band completely abandoned the introductory section and immediately began with hard riffs. Martin Barre, 69 years old, played in the best form. As a member of Jethro Tull, Martin Barre is little known as a composer but his own songs are audible. From the current album, he played Moment of Madness and the title Back to Steel. To round off the program there was the classic Eleanor Rigby from the Beatles.

Reinforcement got Barre and his band on stage by Alex Hart and Becca Langford. The two women gave the background vocals for some pieces and also took over the task of the opening act. Two other women at trombones provide more musical diversity.

After two hours Martin Barre and his band disappeared from the stage only to return shortly afterwards for an encore. Following the tradition from Jethro Tull the piece Locomotive Breath was played to the finale. At that moment you missed a bit the eccentric flute of an Ian Anderson. Nevertheless, Martin Barre managed to fire a fireworks of rock and blues without any effort and to spark the audience's enthusiasm.
