Interview with cosplayer DizzieDee

Please introduce yourself. Where do you come from and how old are you?
Everyone calls me Dee, I come from the UK, South Wales and I'm 27.

At what age did you start with the Cosplay and what made you do it?
I made my first costume when I was 17, it was horrific and I scrapped it straight away. It was Yuffie from Final Fantasy 7. I never wore it anywhere. I got into cosplay and conventions when I was about 20 and nearing the end of my University course as I always wanted to attend but never had the chance before then due to working as much as I could to pay for my university course, but it was something I was interested in for years before I actually attended a convention.

How do you choose the characters for your cosplay and which have you already done?
I usually pick someone from a series I really love, it's not always my favourite character though. I have done way to many characters. White Mage from Final Fantasy, Relm from Final Fantasy VI, Tifa from Final Fantasy VII and Advent Children, Rinoa from Final Fantasy VIII, Garnet from Final Fantasy XI, Yuna from Final Fantasy X and X-2, Serah from Final Fantasy XIII and XIII-2, Gumi and Kaito from Vocaloid, Azusa, Mio and Yui from K-on, Haruko from FLCL, Mari from Evangelion, Dark Phoenix and X-23 from X-men, Nightwing, Poison Ivy and Harely Quinn from Batman, Sara Pezzini from Witchblade, Bubblehead Nurse from Silent Hill, Killjoy and Velocity from Cyber Force, Matt from Digimon, Ibuki and Poison from Street Fighter, Moaning Myrtle from Harry Potter, Angela from Spawn, Max from Life is Strange and the list goes on and on...

Are you doing your costumes yourself?
I do a lot of the costumes myself. Although sometimes I will buy a costume if it works out cheaper than buying the materials.

For which characters would you like to do a cosplay in the future?
Uhhh too many! My dream cosplay would be Ultros. However I really want to do big builds like Gundam or Warhammer 40k soon.

What was your best experience as a cosplayer so far?
Meeting so many people and making so many friends. It would not have happened if I never got into the hobby.

Do you have any bad experiences with cosplaying?
I had another cosplayer harass me for over a year.

Are you doing cosplay on conventions? Where could one see you?
Yup at every convention I attend I cosplay, it's pretty much the only places I do cosplay apart from photoshoots. I'm usually running about buying comics or video game merch but the majority of time I'll be near the cosplay area if there is one.

What do you do when you're not cosplaying?
I work full time, sew, prop make, make youtube videos reviewing geekery, read comics, play video games, watch films and try to fit in the gym.

What are your future plans or your greatest dreams?
Tough question, I guess it would be to own a house and not pay a mortgage. I know, it's a bit boring but you can't go wrong with a roof over your head!

Is there anything else you would like to say to your fans and followers?
Can we call them friends instead? I don't really class my followers as fans as it's a bizarre concept to me, I'm the same as everyone else. However I'd like to give them all a huge hug and a lot of thanks for their support.
